AIRPORTS
MARG is expanding its sectoral presence with Airport projects in Bellary and Bijapur under a Public Private Partnership with Govt. of Karnataka. The projects include terminal buildings, runways, control towers and access facilities cum utilities. Development of facilities, amenities and other infrastructure like an aviation academy, exhibition / convention centre, business parks, shopping mall, flying club, theme / entertainment parks etc. which would address the needs of the local population and tourists is also being planned. These 2 airports are envisioned as a giant leap towards bridging the gap between the potential growth locations and urban centers in the state of Karnataka.
Bijapur Airport:
MARG has been awarded the contract for the development and operation of a Greenfield airport at Bijapur in November 2008 by the Government of Karnataka, on BOT basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) model for 30 year concession period. MARG has to design, develop, operate and manage the airport during the concession period.
The total project cost during Phase I estimated around Rs.1500 million. Some salient features of the project are as follows:
- 727 acres of land for the development of airside and other city side commercial amenities
- Terminal building of 2,500 sq.mt, capable of handling 100 passengers at peak hour
- Runway of dimension 1700 Mx30 M which would support ATR 72 range of flights
- Hangars, aprons, taxiways, isolated parking bay, ground support equipment, air traffic control tower of height 15 M, fuel form and fire station
Bellary airport:
The site for the proposed airport is at about 10km from Bellary city on the Sananakallu-Moka road, north east of the city. The Sananakallu-Moka road is proposed to be developed as a four-lane road and will serve as the main approach road to the new airport. The airport location has been selected taking into consideration the availability of reasonably flat land capable of locating a runway length necessary to accommodate necessary flight operations.
